PSE is an expander built for live sound, where microphone bleed limits how loud a PA can go before it feeds back. It reduces what a mic picks up when its own source is not there, so background noise falls away between vocal lines and gain before feedback rises. Cleaner mics also mean fewer phase problems in a live recording and better monitoring on stage. Internal and external sidechains are available with high and low pass filters.
