The API 560 is a graphic equaliser with API's proportional-Q filter behaviour, so bands narrow at their extremes and stay forgiving when pushed hard. A graphic layout suits broad tone shaping rather than surgical correction, which makes it quick on overheads, pianos, guitars and other complex sources. There is extra resolution through the critical few decibels either side of centre, and the output section adds a phase switch and eighteen decibels of level control. The original dates from 1967.
