King's Microphones models three EMI microphones built for British royalty in the 1920s and 30s, left in the EMI archive for decades and restored to record the orchestral sections of The King's Speech. They were never designed for music, which is the point of using them. Each mic offers close, natural and ambient positions, and the narrow, filtered character makes them a sound-design tool as much as a recording one, particularly for re-amping guitars and synths. The King George V model is the only known carbon mic of its kind.
