The J37 is the all-valve Studer tape machine Abbey Road recorded the Beatles and Pink Floyd on, modelled as a tape stage you can place across anything. Saturation is the main reason to reach for it, adding warmth and density to digital sources, but the imperfections are modelled too. Bias, tape speed, hiss, wow and flutter are all adjustable, so the effect runs from a light thickening on a vocal or a master to something audibly worn.
