MaxxBass creates the sensation of bass on speakers that cannot reproduce it, generating harmonics above the fundamental that the ear reads as a lower note than is actually present. The technique comes from psychoacoustic research rather than equalisation, which is why it works on laptops and phones where boosting the low end achieves nothing. You set the ratio between original and generated bass, and a graphic display shows what is being added. It also adds low-end power to a master without clouding it.
