Kramer PIE models the Pye compressor from Olympic Studios, a pulse-width modulation design whose speed, transparency and low distortion set it apart from valve and FET units. It earned its reputation on buses, particularly drums, backing vocals and masters. Threshold, ratio and decay are the only controls, which is why it moves so quickly, and optional analog noise can be added. It was developed with Eddie Kramer, who used the original extensively.
