Overview

Grit without the mud.

Saturate, made by Newfangled Audio and distributed by Eventide, is the spectral clipper from the Elevate mastering limiter as a plug-in of its own. Ordinary overdrive can let loud low frequencies swamp the quieter mids and highs; Saturate treats each frequency separately as it clips, so the output keeps the tonal balance of the input with harmonics added. That suits grit on sampled drums, weight on a bassline with its peaks held in check, thicker distorted guitars, or clean extra level from a full mix with its transients clipped off.
