How to install and activate

Register your code

  1. 1

Sign in to MyVSL and link an iLok account

Go to vsl.co.at, click MyVSL and sign in — or create a free account if you have never bought from Vienna before. On the account page, find "Where your licenses are deposited": add the iLok account you already have, or let VSL create a free one for you. Your licence will be delivered to that iLok account.

    Open ↗
TIPNever had an iLok account? Choose "Create an iLok Account" — VSL makes one and links it for you. Pick the iLok User ID carefully: it is your login name at iLok and cannot be changed later.

    CHECKPOINT

MyVSL shows an iLok User ID under "Where your licenses are deposited".

  2. 2

Open "Redeem a code" and enter your serial number

Still in MyVSL, open the "Redeem a code" section. It says: "If you made a purchase outside our webshop, enter your serial number here to add it to your account." The serial number it wants is the code from your licence email — type or paste it in and confirm.

    Open ↗
TIPIf the box is greyed out with "Link your iLok account above to register a product", finish step 1 first.

    Your activation code

It is in your licence email, in the purple panel. Signed in? It is in your account too.

    CHECKPOINT

Your product is now listed under My Products → Owned, and the licence is on its way to your iLok account ("iLok · deposited").

Install your library

  1. 3

Download and install the Vienna Assistant

Vienna's downloads all come through one free program, the Vienna Assistant. Download the macOS or Windows version, open it and install it.

    Open ↗
TIPAlready have it? Just open it — it checks for its own updates.
  2. 4

Sign in to the Vienna Assistant and install your product

Open the Vienna Assistant and sign in with the same email and password you use on the VSL website. A short tour ends on the Preferences tab — pick a download and content location with plenty of room, ideally an SSD. Then click your product in the main view and press "Install". The Vienna Assistant downloads the library and the player software for you.

    Open ↗
TIPOrchestral libraries are large. Click "Show Progress" at the bottom to watch the download; you can leave it running.

    CHECKPOINT

The product no longer appears in the "not installed" count in the sidebar.

Activate and play

  1. 5

Activate the licence in the iLok License Manager

While installing, the Vienna Assistant also installs the iLok License Manager. Click "Manage licenses" in the bottom-left corner of the Vienna Assistant to open it, and sign in with your iLok User ID — the one from step 1, not your VSL login. Then either start a Cloud Session (File menu → Open Your Cloud Session) or plug in your iLok USB key, go to View → Available licenses, and drag your new licence onto the cloud icon or the key on the left.

    Open ↗
TIPCloud session means no hardware but a constant internet connection; a USB key works offline. You can move licences between the two later. Turning on Automatic mode in the License Manager saves you doing this by hand next time.

    CHECKPOINT

The licence appears under your cloud session or your iLok key with no warning icon.

  2. 6

    Open your library

Your Vienna library runs inside the Vienna player that was installed with it — Synchron Player for Synchron and Synchron-ized libraries — either on its own or as a plug-in in the music program you use: Cubase, Logic Pro, Dorico, Pro Tools and so on. Open the player, and your new instruments are there to load.

TIPEach library has its own licence, so if you bought more than one, check they are all activated in step 5.

    CHECKPOINT

The player opens and lists your library with no "license not found" message. Enjoy.

Every Vienna product comes with one licence that can be active on one computer at a time. Upgrades (for example from a Special Edition volume or an Essentials edition to a fuller library, or to a Synchron-ized version): register the upgrade code the same way; when the licence arrives, the iLok License Manager asks you to surrender the old licence — click "Complete" when prompted, and if the old licence is still active in your cloud session or on your key, right-click it and deactivate it. Bundles: each library in the bundle is its own licence and shows up as its own product in the Vienna Assistant.

If something goes wrong

My code is not accepted

Codes are entered exactly as sent — paste rather than retype, and keep or drop dashes exactly as the steps say. Still stuck? Contact us with your order number and we will sort it, usually the same day.

The plug-in does not show up in my music program

Check you installed the format your program uses and rescan its plug-in folders. The Vienna Symphonic Library help pages cover each program's scan settings.

I bought this but have no email

Check spam first — licence emails arrive within minutes of payment. Nothing there? Contact us and we will resend it.

Do I need the Vienna Symphonic Library app?

Yes — Vienna Symphonic Library installs and licenses everything through its own app; the guide above starts there.
