Metric Halo installation.

Metric Halo is a single download that you activate the first time you open it. Set aside about ten minutes. You will need the activation code from your licence email.

How to install and activate

Get your licence

    Find your Metric Halo product code

    It is near the top of your licence email: eight characters in two groups of four, like XXXX-XXXX. This is a Metric Halo product code, not yet a licence — you swap it for one in the next step. If you bought more than one plug-in or bundle you have one code for each.

    It is in your licence email, in the purple panel. Signed in? It is in your account too.

    Redeem it on the Metric Halo website

    The page has two boxes. Type your product code into “Product Code”, dashes included, and your email address into the second box, then press Submit. Use an email address you actually check — Metric Halo sends your licence and download links there, and keeps it as the permanent record of your purchase. One code at a time: if you have several, come back and repeat this step for each.

    TIPNothing arrives after ten minutes? Check your spam folder before trying the code again — Metric Halo says requests are processed immediately, round the clock.

    CHECKPOINT

    You now have an email from Metric Halo containing an iLok activation code and a download link. That iLok code is a different thing from the product code you just typed.

    Make sure you have a free iLok account

    Metric Halo plug-ins are licensed through iLok, so you need a free iLok account — a user ID and password at iLok.com. Already have one from another plug-in maker? Use that. Never had one? Create it at iLok.com now; it only takes a minute. You do not need to buy an iLok USB key: the licence can live on your computer or in iLok Cloud instead.

    TIPIf Metric Halo’s email contains an activation link, click it and sign in with your iLok account — that places the licence in your account straight away, and you can skip typing the iLok code later.

Install your plug-ins

    Download the MH Production Bundle installer

    Every Metric Halo plug-in — ChannelStrip, HaloVerb, Character, the whole Production Bundle — comes in one installer, the MH Production Bundle v4 Installer. On the download page pick Mac or Windows. The manual is a separate download on the same page.

    TIPThe installer is the same one the free 30-day demo uses, so it is normal if the page does not mention your purchase — your iLok licence is what unlocks the plug-ins you bought.

    Run the installer and choose only the plug-ins you own

    Open the file you downloaded and follow the prompts. When it asks which plug-ins to install, untick the ones you did not buy — otherwise they will open as demos and keep asking you to activate. Say yes to the plug-in formats it suggests; they are right for Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Cubase and most other music programs, and AAX is the one Pro Tools needs.

    The installer has finished and your plug-ins are on your computer.

    Open a plug-in and activate it with your iLok account

    Open one of your new plug-ins in the music program you use — Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Pro Tools, any of them. The first time, an Activation window appears. Click “Activate”. If you have not already used Metric Halo’s activation link, paste the iLok activation code from Metric Halo’s email into the “Activation Code Entry” box and click Next; if you have, click “No”, sign in with your iLok user ID and password, and pick your licence from the list. Then choose where to keep the licence — your computer, or an iLok USB key if you have one plugged in — and click Next, then Continue.

    TIPThe iLok activation code works once — after that, your licences are managed from your iLok account using the free iLok License Manager app from iLok.com, which can also move a licence between computers. Each licence gives you two activations.

    CHECKPOINT

    A “Successful Activation” message — the plug-in opens without asking again. You only do this once per licence.

Each plug-in or bundle you bought has its own product code — redeem each one. Current Metric Halo plug-ins are version 4; a v3 licence does not unlock the v4 installer (Metric Halo sells that as a paid upgrade), and older-version installers are linked at the bottom of the same download page. Make Believe plug-ins sold by Metric Halo install from a separate Make Believe Bundle installer page instead of the Production Bundle one, but are licensed the same way through iLok. Metric Halo audio interfaces (hardware) are registered inside MIO Console and are not covered here.

If something goes wrong

My code is not accepted

Codes are entered exactly as sent — paste rather than retype, and keep or drop dashes exactly as the steps say. Still stuck? Contact us with your order number and we will sort it, usually the same day.

The plug-in does not show up in my music program

Check you installed the format your program uses and rescan its plug-in folders. The Metric Halo help pages cover each program's scan settings.

I bought this but have no email

Check spam first — licence emails arrive within minutes of payment. Nothing there? Contact us and we will resend it.

Do I need an account?

Only if the steps above say so — some brands licence entirely inside the software.
